Got Phobias?

I speak briefly to various phobias (like fear of heights) in this tutorial and that’s an interesting explanation~ but most people have a need to put a ‘face’ to their anxiety or fear, so it can seem more manageable. At their baseline, is often generalized anxiety that they can’t understand or make sense of. Giving it an ‘identity’ helps us feel less “crazy,” and brings some degree of comfort~ but we want to help you eliminate anxiety issues, so we've gotta quit naming it.
Fear of heights isn't really the problem. The fact that we can't trust ourselves to be careful enough not to fall (or jump) off a high place, is. As kids, we watched movies of Superheroes flying around, and what child hasn't wondered what it would be like to defy gravity? There's a certain allure to fantasizing about what being weightless and flying, would be like! So this particular fear (for most) really concerns a fear of the Self giving into temptation, regardless of whether or not it's dangerous.
Again, whatever's unknown to us, whatever's confusing to us, whatever is unfamiliar or we can't make sense of, we tend to fear. When we give our fear or anxiety An Identity/A Face, it's no longer some nebulous, scary, unknown entity. We feel familiarity with it. It's less intimidating, and that helps us feel a bit more stable and in-control.
